Straight Outta Catacombs
EMIL'S DEEP UNDERGROUND RECOS (part X)
Thrash Metal ... and beyond ... Edition!
Thrash metal without a message is just bogus. Whereas some bands are recording and releasing the same tiresome and meaningless music just for the sake of their bank accounts, the thrashers of the underground continue to deliver music that tell the tale, carrying out the social, political and environmental messages for which the genre was well known and appreciated by legions of fans worldwide. For this edition, the tenth, of Straight Outta Catacombs I chose ten albums, all released over the past months, by metal acts that are here to remind us about the importance of these messages conveyed into thrash metal! The ten albums are listed in the chronological order of their release. Please support the bands of the underground! For those looking for quality thrash metal, look no further ...
Sophomore album by the Argentine crossover thrashers Violent Execution! Formed in 2011, the band is rooted lyrically in social and political issues. High octane punk influenced thrash metal, delivering its' intended message, undiluted and with the proper attitude!
Roll Of Dice
Debut full-length effort by the Greek thrashers, Thraz. Recorded as a duo, "Roll Of Dice" has strong East Coast thrash influences that can be traced back to the golden eras of the 80's and 90's, with a modern approach in sound. Cited influences: Annihilator, Anthrax, Megadeth, Exodus and Pantera.
Influenced by the likes of Raven, Dark Angel, Atheist, Toxik, Destruction, Anacrusis, Death and Coroner, Ukrainian thrashers Bestial Invasion deliver their 3rd full-length album to date. Highly technical/progressive musical approach with outstanding vocals in the vein of King Diamond!
Creatures Of The Damned
Influenced by both Bay Area and Teutonic thrash gods, Dawnbreath delivers their brutal sophomore full-length effort. Often crossing metal's boundaries, "Creatures Of The Damned", is a relentlessly pounding, dense concoction, positively subscribing to the band's motto: "Speed - Aggressivity - Energy - Thrash"!
"Rebelión" marks Colombians crossover thrash band Terminal War sophomore full-length comeback. Formed in Bogota in 2004, the band released their full-length studio debut in 2011, becoming a permanent fixture to their homeland metal scene.
¡Thrash Hasta el Final!
Fist To Face
Disciples of thrash since 2004, Holycide released their 2nd studio album to positive reactions from fans and critics alike. Fronted by founder Dave Rotten (Avulsed) since inception, the band delivers an intense and aggressive "Fist To Face", which is set to continue the band's path to total annihilation!
Just across the border, in Portugal, we find Mindtaker delivering eleven raging thrash metal tracks via their full-length studio debut, "Toxic War", released earlier this year. The Portuguese thrashers insert their relentless blend of crossover thrash into the highest tiers of the genre!
By Thunder And Lightning
On a constant assault, the French crossover thrashers Verbal Razors reached a new career milestone with the release of their 3rd full-length effort, "By Thunder And Lightning". The independently released album showcases the band reaching new levels in compositions and sound production.
New Zealand's crossover thrash act 3000AD has recently released their well received full-length debut effort. Via "The Void", the band fuses into music their passion for thrash metal, 80’s punk rock, and bleak, dystopian, futuristic imagery. The result: modern thrash metal sound with a punk edge.
Los 7 Pecados Capitales
"Los 7 Pecados Capitales" (The 7 Deadly Sins) is Black Machine's debut record. The album is ironically, rebelliously and satirically based around global injustices, such as wars, religions, violence, racism, corruption, etc. The band rounds up said plagues in rough, loud and aggressive music, with a pitch-perfect operatic vocal approach.
